SWIRL Custom Cakes & Desserts Staff is comprised of several talented and passionate professional, both in the bakery and the office.

Lynnette MacDonald, our founder and head Cake Designer, earned her reputation as one of Canada’s most sought-after cake designers and international speakers by channeling her unrivaled perfectionism and meticulous attention to detail into creating unique desserts for over 20 years.

Lynnette’s passion for baking started at an early age: in her mom Marie’s kitchen where fresh baked bread and homemade kitty cat birthday cakes were a staple. It is here where Lynnette learned how to perfect and recreate recipes that had been in the family for generations.

In 2002, Lynnette decided to convert passion to profession, and trained in the art of cake design and decorating. She has trained in Paris France in French pastry and French macaroons. Lynnette proudly shares her family recipes today – with her discerning clientele who seek delicious desserts, perfectly decorated in SWIRL’s kitchen.



Arin Hiebert – Red Seal Pastry Chef

Arin started with SWIRL in 2018 and competed with Lynnette in 2019 on the Food Network Canada’s The Big Bake. In Spring of 2020 Arin competed on the Food Networks Spring Baking Championship. Arin has since retired from SWIRL but remains a great resource and friend of Lynnette’s. Arin is the holder of a culinary red seal, and has attended both The French Pastry School (Chicago) and the Chocolate Academy of Chicago. Arin embodies the idea that baking is an art and continues to evolve his work as food trends change and emerge. As well as being a pinnacle member of the SWIRL team he is the Pastry Chef de Partie at the renowned Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary. It is an honor to have Arin’s expertise on the team and his witty sense of humour in the bakery. What can he create for you today?

Tanya Kaynes

Tanya joined SWIRL in 2018 and competed with Lynnette and Arin in 2019 on the Food Networks The Big Bake.  Tanya has years of baking experience and brings her passion for experimenting with new recipes to continually better the experience for our clients with special dietary requests. Her talent in the bakery with the art of decorating is a wonderful addition in addition to her contagious smile and unsurpassed work ethic. Tanya continues to make guest appearances in the SWIRL kitchen when she is able to amongst her busy schedule as an event coordinator. 

Monique Regier

Monique joined SWIRL in May of 2020 and is the queen of buttercream. Her passion for clean sharp edges and simple modern minimalistic designs is such a delight to have on the team. Monique is a wife and mom and has an infectious energy. You’ll often find her on the front end of our community appearances. Come say Hi! 

Amanda Jones

Amanda joined SWIRL in April of 2019 as a junior bakery assistant. She is very familiar with the wedding industry with over 18 years experience as the owner of Glimptz Invitations. Amanda has quickly progressed and has elevated her skills and her passion has allowed her to learn to execute the majority of the design assigned to her under the guidance of our lead designer. She is a wife and a mother and enjoys all things creative.

SWIRL Custom Cakes & Desserts is more than just an outlet for creativity – it is another outlet to positively impact the lives of others. SWIRL is active in the Calgary community, encouraging young pastry chefs to pursue internships within our kitchen. SWIRL Custom Cakes & Desserts is active in charity work, sponsoring several charity events as well as the arts and entertainment scene in Calgary and surrounding area. A philanthropic approach to business is strong part of our business model and we encourage our staff to take part and give back to the Calgary community.
