SWIRL Custom Cakes & Desserts Staff is comprised of several talented and passionate professional, both in the bakery and the office.
Lynnette MacDonald, our founder and head Cake Designer, earned her reputation as one of Canada’s most sought-after cake designers and international speakers by channeling her unrivaled perfectionism and meticulous attention to detail into creating unique desserts for over 20 years.
Lynnette’s passion for baking started at an early age: in her mom Marie’s kitchen where fresh baked bread and homemade kitty cat birthday cakes were a staple. It is here where Lynnette learned how to perfect and recreate recipes that had been in the family for generations.
In 2002, Lynnette decided to convert passion to profession, and trained in the art of cake design and decorating. She has trained in Paris France in French pastry and French macaroons. Lynnette proudly shares her family recipes today – with her discerning clientele who seek delicious desserts, perfectly decorated in SWIRL’s kitchen.
Arin Hiebert – Red Seal Pastry Chef
Arin is the holder of a culinary red seal, and has attended both The French Pastry School (Chicago) and the Chocolate Academy of Chicago. Arin embodies the idea that baking is an art and continues to evolve his work as food trends change and emerge. As well as being a pinnacle member of the SWIRL team he is the Pastry Chef de Partie at the renowned Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary. It is an honor to have Arin’s expertise on the team and his witty sense of humour in the bakery. What can he create for you today?
Sonja Olson- Director of Business Development
Sonja utilizes her passion for interacting with people to spread the world about all thing SWIRLS and ensure our current clients are well taken care of. Sonja attended SAIT and the University of Lethbridge receiving a Marketing Diploma and a Management Degree. Following graduation she moved to Norway for two years and when she returned she worked at Azuridge Estate Hotel as the Manager of Social Events. She also worked with another of our preferred venues, Fairmont Palliser planning events. Her extensive event experience gives insight into the logistics of events which benefits our clients when assisting with planing dessert buffets and wedding cakes. Sonja will also be joining the operations team with production as her sugar cookie decorating skills are among the best in the industry. The combination of her baking passion and business expertise is an extraordinary addition to the SWIRL team.
Tanya has years of baking experience and brings her passion for experimenting with new recipes to continually better the experience for our clients with special dietary requests. Her talent in the bakery with the art of decorating is a wonderful addition in addition to her contagious smile and unsurpassed work ethic.
SWIRL Custom Cakes & Desserts is more than just an outlet for creativity – it is another outlet to positively impact the lives of others. SWIRL is active in the Calgary community, encouraging young pastry chefs to pursue internships within our kitchen. SWIRL Custom Cakes & Desserts is active in charity work, sponsoring several charity events as well as the arts and entertainment scene in Calgary and surrounding area. A philanthropic approach to business is strong part of our business model and we encourage our staff to take part and give back to the Calgary community.
